NAM celebrates the assumption of the G77 presidency by the State of Palestine

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as a Chair of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM), congratulated the Head of State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday morning for taking the Chair of the Group of 77, in a ceremony held in the lounge of the Trusteeship Council of the United Nations Organization, with the participation of Sameh Hassan Shokry Selim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the country that led the G77 during 2018, as well as the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres and the President of the General Assembly for the 73rd Regular Session, María Fernanda Espinoza Garcé.

“The Member States of the Movement congratulate the State of Palestine for assuming the Presidency of the Group of 77 during the year 2019, and express their confidence in their ability to fulfill such an important role (…) also renew the commitment to work hand in hand to promote the interests of the countries and peoples of the South, strengthen cooperation, and strengthen coordination between both forums, within the framework of their respective mandates, including through the framework offered by the Joint Coordination Committee (CCC),” said the Deputy Permanent Representative, Henry Suárez.
